Whether it’s a peplum silhouette, raglan sleeves or just a simple collared neckline, these innovative styles add a refreshing twist to the traditional garments.”
All the members of Kapoor’s Khandaan are looking wonderful also Sonam’s sister, director, and stylist Rhea Kapoor was not too far behind. She layered the sari with an oversized cape that gave it an extra edge which made her look even more gorgeous in a black and pink Anamika Khanna sari,
Sridevi Boney Kapoor and her daughter Jhanvi and Kushi attended the wedding as well. Here is a look at what they wore:
For one of the functions, Sridevi was seen wearing an asymmetrical long Top worn over an embroidered lehenga along with soft flowy organza drapes which made her look even more elegant and graceful in this Manish Malhotra creation. Sridevi also wore a stunning blush pink lehenga which had rose gold embroidery all over it. She perfectly paired the look with Kundan jewelry. Another one of Sridevi’s outfits were a rust lehenga paired with an elegant white shirt style blouse and layered Kundan necklace.
It is no news that Sridevi’s daughter Jhanvi and Kushi are Manish Malhotra’s biggest muse, hence their obvious choice was Manish Malhotra’s outfits for the wedding.
Jhanvi wore a lavender lehnga that had a high neck gown and beaded crystals all over it. We love how the lehenga had a feather detail on the hem. Another one of her looks included a white lehnga that had a strapless blouse along with, floral embroidery all over it. She paired the look with a matha Patti. Keeping up with the whites, another one of Jhanvi’s looks included a white shirt blouse paired with a lehenga. We love how she wore her hair in a high pony-plait with this look. Kushi Kapoor’s lehenga looks like a dream as she wore a baby pink, backless lehenga. She glittered in the ensemble as that had beautiful tiny sequins all over it.
Exaggerated or Statement sleeves add drama to any regular outfit. If you want to do the same for your conventional sari, go for balloon sleeves.
As the golden rule is just~~ The longer the sleeve the gentle the puff…
Throw on a Tux…
The Sari suit is a great to wear the East-meets-West trend. You can wear a formal, well-fitted tux jacket as a blouse and drape your Sari over it. The key is to go for a suit in a color which complements our sari- avoid classics like Black and White. We can also play with the length of the sleeves, so for that, we can just go for a three-fourths length.
Sports Collared Necklines…
We can team any funky blouse with a collar with our Sari. Such blouses complement one-toned saris in silk or khadi and a great option for women holding corporate positions. If we have a long neck, we should just go for a Peter Pan, Chinese or Nehru Collar. Designer Shruti Sancheti adds, “This style is a favorite with women and can be worn in multiple ways like a shirt, blouse or jacket. We can also add epaulets, roll up the sleeves, add a cute pocket on the sleeve or just use zippers for a formal look.”
Add a Capelet…
The flowing cape was the fashion standout last year. While celebrities wore the trend on their gowns on the red carpet, it’s now time to incorporate the cape into traditional wear. Go for shorter version ~the capelet~ preferably with embroidery on it, so that even if your sari is plain, the detailed blouse will elevate the entire outfit. Designer Swati Vijaivargie adds, “This season, we are pairing capes with more traditional garments. A sheer capelet blouse on the sari looks stunning. Plain capelets on embroidered saris or embroidered capelets on the sheer saris are a great option for summer.”
Pair with a Retro Overcoat…
Add some old world charm to your sari with an overcoat! It’s a throwback to the fashionable 40’s, and 50’s when the long jackets that reached upto the knees were popular. For summers, go for light. Breathable and handwoven fabrics. If you are looking for some more festive look, we can opt for the silk option with the brocade work. Just as Sonam Kapoor’s unconventional lace sari-embroidered jacket combination at the Cannes red carpet in 2013.
Go For Peplum Blouse…
Take a break from conventional cholis and recycle an embellished peplum top into a sari blouse for effortless glamour. Designer Ammy Billimoria says,”It is an interesting silhouette. It can be teamed with a mermaid fit high-waisted skirt, which will give the illusion of wearing a gown. Another look to try: Team a deep V-neck peplum blouse with your sari and wear the pallu from underneath the blouse.
Can this girl ever give a disappointing outfit? I don’t THINK so..!
